Theory Session - Attendees will learn

  • Methods of Extinguishing Different Types of Fire:

Participants will delve into a comprehensive understanding of various fire classifications and the most effective methods to extinguish each type. This involves educating attendees on the different classes of fires—such as Class A (ordinary combustibles), Class B (flammable liquids), Class C (electrical fires), Class D (combustible metals), and Class K (cooking oils and fats). Understanding these classifications is crucial, as each requires a distinct approach to ensure safe and effective extinguishment.

  • Fire Extinguisher Types, Capabilities, and Limitations:

The training will cover the diverse range of fire extinguishers available, including water-based, foam, powder, CO2, and specialised extinguishers. Participants will learn about the specific capabilities and limitations of each extinguisher type, such as their effectiveness against different fire classes and the recommended applications for various environments. Understanding these distinctions is essential for selecting the right extinguisher in an emergency situation.

  • How a Fire Extinguisher Works:

This segment will provide a detailed insight into the fundamental principles behind the operation of fire extinguishers. Attendees will learn about the components and mechanisms within extinguishers that enable them to control and suppress fires effectively. From the activation mechanisms to the discharge process, participants will gain a thorough understanding of how these devices function to combat fires safely and efficiently.

  • Safe Use of Fire Extinguishers:

Safety protocols and best practices for using fire extinguishers will be emphasized throughout the training. This includes proper handling techniques, positioning oneself at a safe distance from the fire, using the PASS (Pull, Aim, Squeeze, Sweep) technique effectively, and understanding the importance of evacuation procedures even after successfully extinguishing a fire. Attendees will also be educated on maintenance practices to ensure the extinguishers are always in optimal working condition.
